BGSU football (2-2) dropped to .500 on the season after a 40-17 road loss to undefeated Louisville on Saturday.
The Falcons (2-2) struggled to establish momentum against the Cardinals (3-0), who controlled the game from the opening quarter. Bowling Green’s offense managed only a 49-yard field goal by Jackson Kleather in the first half before Louisville rattled off 33 unanswered points to put the game out of reach.
Graduate student quarterback Drew Pyne finished with 131 passing yards, throwing one touchdown and two interceptions. Both turnovers stalled promising drives that could have shifted momentum early, keeping the Falcons from capitalizing on scoring chances. Pyne’s lone touchdown came in the fourth quarter on a 38-yard strike to tight end Jacob Harris, who remained one of the most consistent targets throughout the game.
Bowling Green totaled 321 yards of offense, with 190 coming on the ground. The highlight of the afternoon came late when sophomore quarterback Lucian Anderson III broke free for a 75-yard touchdown run — the Falcons’ longest play of the season. Despite the late push, most of BGSU’s offensive production came with the game already out of hand.
Defensively, the Falcons showed flashes of disruption, recording three sacks and forcing a fumble. Linebacker Gideon Lampron led the charge with 13 total tackles, five solo, one sack and one tackle for loss, while the front seven generated pressure throughout the contest. However, Louisville’s balanced attack wore the defense down, finishing with 452 total yards, including 326 through the air and 126 on the ground.
With non-conference play now behind them, the Falcons will shift focus to the Mid-American Conference (MAC) schedule. Bowling Green travels to Ohio University next week for its MAC opener.
