The Falcons are coming off one of their biggest regular season wins in recent history. A 21-point comeback to defeat their arch rivals, the Toledo Rockets.
But we see this time and time again in college football. A monumental win is followed by a wake-up the following week.
In the Mid-American Conference (MAC), it’s no different.
So what’s next?
The Falcons face off against the Central Michigan Chippewas this Saturday. A team that is also 3-3 and 1-1 in conference play with a first-year head coach.
MACtion always brings out the craziness in every team.
But by technicality, the Falcons’ two toughest conference opponents in Ohio and Toledo are now out of the way.
With a favorable schedule upcoming, what does the MAC landscape look like, and how do you fight the narrative of playing down to your competition the weeks after such a monumental win?
Just treat each week like it’s the same, said linebacker Gideon Lampron.
“It definitely feels good. Everyone on the team’s still thinking about it a little bit, for sure, but we got to put it behind us, and we need to come and treat every week the same as we did last week,” said Lampron. “It’s going to start now, starts tomorrow morning once we come in for meetings.”
For Mike and Jan Wilcox Head Football Coach Eddie George, it’s bloody October.
“We beat Toledo, great. Next up, we’ve got to come with the same intensity, the same passion, and turn it up a notch because this is October football. This is bloody October,” said George. “This is the moving point, and it sets it up for November when you gotta win championships. Can you close the deal?”
The Falcons get to show off what they’re made of in front of a large crowd at Doyt L. Perry Stadium for the second straight week.
“Let’s keep the party going. You know, let’s keep the momentum going,” said George. “I think it was awesome to see.”
