Diwali Utsav
Celebrate Diwali, also known as Deepavali, the Hindu festival of lights, with the India Student Association. Diwali is a five-day celebration of good over evil and knowledge over ignorance. To commemorate the holiday, lamps called diyas are lit to create a light display, symbolizing light prevailing over darkness. Held in Bowen-Thompson Student Union Room 318 on Saturday, Nov. 1 from 6 to 10 p.m., the event will feature cultural performances, music and food. The India Student Association is for anyone who wants to learn more about Indian culture, festivals and values, according to the organization’s BGSU presence page. Diwali Utsav has been a longstanding, annual event with the India Student Association for anyone on campus to learn about and appreciate the culture.

Hooks and Books
Students are invited to Kreischer for its weekly Hooks and Books event. Pick up a hook and crochet or pick up a good book and enjoy the company. Book lovers and crocheters of all skill levels are welcome to Ashley-Batchelder’s second floor lounge on Sunday, Nov. 2nd, from 6 to 8 p.m. The same event will also be held on Nov. 9 and Nov. 16 at the same time and location. The events at Kreischer are perfect for those who either live there or in any dorm across BGSU’s campus. Hooks and Books is a fun way to relax and get cozy for the cold seasons. It’s also a good opportunity to meet new people who share similar interests in books and crochet. For every event you attend, collect a different pin to decorate your room. Materials will be provided while supplies last for anyone, regardless of the student’s residence.

ASA’s Mock African Wedding Party
It’s not every day that you will be invited and able to attend a unique wedding ceremony that has a twist– a mystery groom. BGSU’s African Student Association’s (ASA) event coordinator will be getting “married” at the Bowen-Thompson Student Union Multipurpose Room 228 on Sunday, Nov. 7 from 7 to 9 p.m. Join the ASA in a celebration of African culture with a buffet-style African-inspired dinner, dance performance by Toledo African Dance Team (TRIBE), a themed photo booth and more. Attendees can also dance along with music from a live DJ. Come to the wedding and learn more about the customs and traditions, eat, laugh and memorialize the special day.
