BGSU football has their backs up against a wall after blowing a 21-point lead in their loss to Kent State.
Here are some of the questions that were sent in for this week’s Falcon Media Sports Network mailbag:
Q: Why does offensive coordinator Travis Partridge refuse to lean on the run game? Taking those sacks late and up on Kent was a travesty when the run game was working. No easy throws schemed up either.
A (Sean Connelly): One could argue that offensive coordinator Partridge does rely on the run game heavily. Saturday just happened to be a disaster when it came to trying to run the clock down. The team had 50 rushes on Saturday compared to 28 pass attempts. Going back to the week previously, there were 36 attempted rushes to 25 pass attempts. The only game, for that matter, that the Falcons didn’t have more rush attempts than pass attempts was in the week two Cincinnati game, where the Falcons threw the ball 37 times to just 34 rushes. So, Partridge does rely on the run game more than the pass game. I believe that the “easy throws” had to be thrown out the window when Kent came knocking on the door, and playing there was too much time left to be playing it safe and just checking it down. You had to play more aggressively if you wanted to be comfortable. Kent had all the momentum in that game from midway through the third quarter and on.
Q: Is this the most embarrassing loss in BG football history?
A (Tyler Kavalecz): The loss to Kent State was certainly embarrassing; however, it is definitely not the most embarrassing in program history. The most embarrassing loss that comes to mind is the Falcons’ seven-overtime loss to Eastern Kentucky in 2022. Bowling Green paid EKU, an FCS program, $350,000 just to lose the game.
