BGSU football (3-8, 1-6) suffered its fifth straight Mid-American Conference (MAC) loss on Tuesday night against the Akron Zips (5-7, 4-4), 19-16.
Despite yet another tough outing, the matchup wasn’t without another standout performance from redshirt freshman running back Austyn Dendy.
In just his fourth career collegiate start, Dendy would rush for 114 yards on the ground on 27 attempts, averaging 4.1 yards per carry. The freshman also became the first tailback for Bowling Green since Terion Stewart in 2023 to have back-to-back 100 or more yards in a game.
His previous start against the Eastern Michigan Eagles (4-7, 3-4) saw 113 rushing yards on 21 attempts and two touchdowns.
Mike and Jan Wilcox Head Football Coach, Eddie George was once again pleased to see the young player’s performance despite the ending result.
“He’s a runner, we had to lean on him,” George said, postgame. “We knew we had to come and establish the run; we did just that.”
George has also seen Dendy as a player to really rely on in tough situations, especially with an offense that has not only seen numerous names in the backfield, but one that has had a difficult time generating big plays when the ball is in their hands.
“Austin has been kind of our workhouse right now,” George said. “We’re kind of leaning on him to generate offense and generate first downs and to get the offense going.”
