Just before entering the new year, BGSU football and Mike and Jan Wilcox Head Football Coach Eddie George have announced two changes to its coaching staff for the upcoming off-season on New Year’s Eve.
Offensive Coordinator: Greg Nosal
The first change is with the offensive coordinator role, as Greg Nosal will now be the sole OC. Since the 2020 season, Nosal has been involved with many other roles with the Orange and Brown. Originally both the running-backs ’ and tight-end’s coach in 2020 and ‘21, Nosal has since been the co-offensive coordinator in 2022 while also being in charge of the offensive line.
Nosal took over coordinating duties this past season as former OC, Travis Partridge, was relieved of his role back on Nov. 3. The Virginia Beach, Virginia native ran the offense for the last three games of the season and earned his first win as the main OC against the Massachusetts Minutemen, 45-14.
Nosal’s experience also goes beyond just the state of Ohio. Before coaching, Nosal was a former starting offensive tackle for the Virginia Tech Hokies from 2007-2011. He was named the team’s offensive lineman of the year in 2010 and an honorable mention All-ACC player in 2011.
Nosal became a graduate assistant for the Hokies from 2013-15 for the offense after his playing time, then would leave Virginia Tech in 2016 after receiving his master’s degree to join the Miami Hurricanes from 2016-18 in the same assistant style role.
His final stop before heading to BG would be for the 2019 season with the East Carolina Pirates as an offensive analyst.
QB Coach: Spencer McCourt
The next new move continues in the offensive department, this time with the quarterback’s coaching position, as graduate assistant Spencer McCourt was named the new QB coach on Wednesday.
Like Nosal, McCourt has a history with Bowling Green, spending the 2019-2021 seasons as a graduate assistant with the Falcons under former head coach Scot Loeffler.
McCourt most recently has spent his time with the Michigan Wolverines as an assistant tight-end coach, where he assisted with on-field adjustments, substitutions, and defensive scout preparation. He also previously worked as a GA for the NC State Wolfpack, working with quarterbacks and wide receivers and leading individual development sessions for freshman skilled players.
At just 29 years of age, McCourt also brings coordinating experience. Having served as the OC for Belleville High School, where the offense averaged 48.5 points per game.
The former Northwood University graduate has served time at the Division-II level at Walsh University as their QB coach.
