The BGSU Women’s Basketball team (11-11, 4-7 MAC) fell to the Kent State Golden Flashes (10-12, 5-6 MAC) on the road Wednesday, by a score of 73-64.
BG entered the game off a 10-point road loss to Toledo, while Kent entered coming off a loss to Ball State in which they surrendered 101 points.
Junior guard Mya Babbitt was dominant for the Flashes, with 25 points, six rebounds, two assists, and a steal. She went 10-of-16 shooting and 3-of-6 from beyond the arc.
Kent State shot better than BG did, making the same number of field goals (22) on 17 fewer attempts. The Flashes shot 41.5% from the field and 46.7% from three. BG shot just 31.4% from the field and 20% from beyond the arc.
The Falcons went 15-of-22 on free throws, leaving seven points on the table in a nine-point game.
Junior guard Paige Kohler paced the Falcons with 21 points, tacking on four rebounds. She attempted 13 three-pointers, connecting on five of them. Sophomore guard Johnea Donahue added 15 points, going 6-of-12 from the floor.
Kent State controlled the glass, with 37 defensive rebounds compared to just 20 for Bowling Green. Sophomore forward Emory Klatt led the team with seven rebounds.
Surprisingly, the Falcons lost despite winning the turnover battle. BG committed just 14 turnovers, compared to 28 for KSU. The Falcons logged 13 steals and scored 20 points off turnovers.
The Orange and Brown were outscored in the first three quarters, and a late-game surge – 25 points in the fourth – was not enough.
The Falcons now fall to exactly .500 after 22 contests and will get to regroup with a non-conference matchup against Coastal Carolina on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Stroh Center. Coverage can be found at bgfalconmedia.com and on Falcon Radio.
