After suffering their largest loss of the season vs Arkansas State, Bowling Green (15-10, 6-6) bounced back with a 68-52 win over Northern Illinois (8-15, 3-8), picking up their second Mid-American Conference (MAC) win in a row.
In the first, Bowling Green went into the first media timeout after jumping to a 10-2 lead, capped off by an alley op from Javontae Campbell to Sam Towns.
The Orange and Brown’s offense stilled a bit in the middle of the first half, with the Huskies cutting the Falcons’ lead down to 25-16- but Mayar Wol hit several key shots for the Falcons down the stretch, heading into halftime up 38-19.
At halftime, Wol led the team in scoring with 13 points. Bowling Green kept the Huskies to shooting 20.6% from the field.
Bowling Green kept the momentum going in the first half and never let it go, recording seven steals in the second half and cruising to a 68-52 win over Northern Illinois.
Despite the Huskies scoring 33 points in the second half, they were never able to regain the lead against the Falcons. In total, the Orange and Brown finished with 13 steals vs their MAC opponents.
Wol finished with a team-high 15 points, with Campbell adding 13 points and three steals. Troy Glover II recorded a team-high five blocks, and Towns grabbed nine rebounds.
Justin Thomas was also key for the Falcons, recording 10 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Northern Illinois Makhai Valentine led the Huskies with 15 points.
Bowling Green improves to 15-10 on the year with a 6-6 record vs the MAC. Next up, the Falcons will return to the Stroh Center this Saturday for the second part of the Battle of I-75 against the Toledo Rockets (13-12, 7-5) on Valentine’s Day, with tip-off at 5:00 p.m.
