With only six games remaining in the regular season, Bowling Green men’s basketball currently stands at a 15-10 record, with a 6-6 record vs. the Mid-American Conference (MAC) and rests in sixth place in the conference standings.
Every game now for Bowling Green is a must-win, but the upcoming three-game stretch is the most important of the season for the Orange and Brown.
First, the Falcons will face the Toledo Rockets this Saturday in the long-storied Battle of I-75, the Orange and Brown lost 73-72 off a game-winning shot by Toledo’s Leroy Blyden Jr. with 8.2 seconds remaining.
Currently in the Todd Simon era, the Falcons are 2-3 vs the Rockets and have split the season series in every season under Simon. However, the Falcons have only beaten the Rockets once at home court during this time.
The following two games of the three-game schedule only gets more difficult for the Orange and Brown, facing Kent State (18-7, 9-3) on Feb. 17. Bowling Green lost to the Golden Flashes 96-93 on Jan. 6.
Currently, Bowling Green is in the middle of a 12-game losing streak against the Golden Flashes that dates back to 2019.
Then, the Falcons travel to Millet Hall to face the currently undefeated Miami OH (24-0, 11-0). Bowling Green lost to the RedHawks 93-83 on Dec. 30. The final score doesn’t tell the whole story of the game, as it was a lopsided loss for BG- heading into halftime down 54-28.
This upcoming stretch of games for the Falcons is time to do or die for the Orange and Brown. UMass currently sits at seventh place in the MAC with a 6-6 record, and Buffalo is in eighth with a 5-7 record.
The Falcons would need to capture about two of three wins during this stretch to feel comfortable getting a spot in Cleveland for the MAC Tournament.
Now, of course, there are still many paths to the MAC Tournament, and many teams have games left to play, but the competition the Falcons will face will be impactful on whether they keep or get to Rocket Arena.
If BGSU wants a comfortable chance of making the MAC Tournament or just staying in the race to get a spot, then they need to perform at their best in this three-game stretch.
