The youngest of three improv troops on Bowling Green State University’s campus, Lady Parts is an impressive combination of comedy and charity.
With only four events left in the spring 2026 semester, Lady Parts director Lily Sharp recounts the excitement of this year.
From planning practices, providing critiques and feedback, booking shows and marketing events, “My job as director is a constantly evolving endeavor,” Sharp said.
Lady Parts had just returned from a comedy workshop and performance, “Tides,” hosted by Ohio State University’s improv team Fishbowl Improv on Jan. 30 and 31.
“We mainly worked on building trust in our scene partners while performing on stage. That means going off script from normal rules of improv because you know for a fact that your scene partner has your back,” Sharp said, explaining the workshop.
Lady Parts will also be traveling to Chicago—“the birthplace of improv,” as Sharp detailed—for a three-day off-campus performance at the iO Theater.
Lady Parts isn’t just for personal growth but promotes community growth as well.
Lady Parts hosts the charity event Women in Comedy, or “WOMCOM,” annually.
“It also happens to be the biggest show of the year,” Sharp said. “At this event, we go door to door to ask for raffle basket donations from local businesses, which bring in most of the funds we raise for the event. All proceeds from this event go to The Cocoon, Wood County’s only comprehensive and holistic domestic and sexual violence agency. This year, we raised $726 for The Cocoon, and we raised just over $1,000 the year prior.”
Typically, “WOMCOM” is the only fundraising charity collaboration, but this year, Lady Parts will be hosting two.
“Lady Parts will be partnering with AcousChicks A Cappella in a carnival-themed charity event taking place April 25 from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Student Union Multipurpose Room. All funds made from the event will also be going to The Cocoon,” Sharp said.
The next event this semester is a sketch comedy show on Feb. 21.
“The sketch show is dedicated only to sketches with no improv involved. Each sketch has been written by one of our members, who will direct their sketch and explain the props and costumes each person needs. If the sketch is filmed, our members will film, edit and direct the sketch themselves with no help from anyone outside of the club. These sketches are 100% representative of us as comedians and give us a creative identity that is separate from just improv,” Sharp said, explaining the uniqueness of the upcoming show.
Be sure to check out this special sketch show on Feb. 21 for some laughs.
