Bowling Green men’s basketball (18-13, 9-9) picked up a 77-69 win over Eastern Michigan (10-21, 4-14) in their regular season finale in Ypsilanti, Michigan, Friday afternoon.
One major reason for the Falcons win was the performance of senior forward Sam Towns, who recorded a double-double with 15 points and 18 rebounds in his final regular season game for the Orange and Brown.
“Knowing this could be my last game, any game, just playing with all the energy I can, doing whatever I can to help my team win,” said Towns. “Lately, we’ve been playing pretty good defense, but theres been a lot of missed field goals. So, I feel like it’s my job to go clean it up.”
Bowling Green had those shooting struggles in the first half, shooting just 27% from the field and heading into halftime down 31-28 to the Eagles.
“The first half, I thought we were playing really, really hard and we left a lot of shots up at the rim; we just weren’t finishing,” said head coach Todd Simon.
The Falcons and Eagles played the second half going back and forth, with the Falcons finally gained the lead in the second half off a Towns dunk, getting the Falcons up 46-44 with 11 minutes left to play.
With three minutes remaining in the game, Javontae Campbell finished at the rim to put the Falcons up double digits, 74-64, to seal the game for the Orange and Brown, with Bowling Green finishing the night with a 77-69 win over the Eagles.
Campbell finished his night with 22 points off 8-for-19 shooting, with Javon Ruffin adding 12 points.
Bowling Green finishes their regular season with back to back wins, and an 18-13 overall record, including a 9-9 record against the Mid-American Conference (MAC). Bowling Green’s season will continue onwards in the MAC Tournament, with the Falcons facing Kent State in the quarterfinals.
