To celebrate Earth Month, the city of Bowling Green, Ohio, is hosting its 14th annual Community Earth Day Celebration on Sunday, April 19, from 2 to 4 p.m.
The celebration will take place at the Montessori School of Bowling Green, and attendees will also be able to visit the Black Swamp Preserve and Slippery Elm Trail during the event. Admission is free and open to the public.
Throughout the day, there will be several different hands-on activities and learning opportunities for people in attendance, ranging across multiple different aspects.
Attendees will have the opportunity to plant a seed or take a tree home through the Bowling Green Save Our Neighbors Group (BG SONG), learn about dragonflies and trees, explore Bowling Green’s different environmental divisions, play interactive games and learn more about the environment at informative learning stations.
During the designated time for the event, there will also be three 20-minute presentations that participants at the celebration can attend. At 2:15 p.m., the Wood County Park District is teaching attendees about plants, the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency is giving an in-depth look at the water systems at 2:45 p.m. and at 3:15 p.m., the urban forester is doing a presentation on planting trees.
For those who want to attend the event early, at 12:15 p.m., attendees are welcome to join the Bowling Green Bicycle Safety Commission and the Wood County Park District’s Craig Spicer on a ride through the Slippery Elm Trail. At 12:30 p.m., there will be a bike maintenance presentation in the Montessori School of Bowling Green parking lot.
Bowling Green State University (BGSU) will also be on-site for the event. BGSU will provide various seeds for people to grow at home, offering bicycle safety demonstrations and volunteers at the different games and activities.
There will also be informational tables set up with BGSU students studying environmental science.
