BGSU Volleyball’s Alex Laboy was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 4 earlier Monday afternoon.

Laboy, a senior from Avon, Ohio, recorded her first career double-double on Thursday, Aug.31, putting up 19 digs and 11 assists in BG’s five set win over Loyola-Chicago in the home opener for the orange and brown.

On Saturday versus Wright State, Laboy added in another career-high performance, racking up 23 digs in the Falcons’ win over the Raiders.

The 23 digs was the only time this season a Falcon has recorded 20+ digs in a match.

For Laboy, this is her first time being recognized in weekly conference honors, but is already the second Falcon to receive honors. Freshman setter Amanda Otten was named the MAC East Offensive Player of the Week last week.
