Four musicians. Four letters. One spontaneous performance that proved sometimes the best bands aren’t permanent in their possibilities.
KASH, a jazz quartet formed specifically for their set on Live & Loud, brought deep groove, tight interplay, and undeniable chemistry to the stage. Named by the first initials of each member’s name – Kramer, Anderson, Sango, Hannah – the group reflects both individual talent and collective spontaneity.
“I’ve been blessed to be able to just be around BG alone,” said senior jazz major Riley Kramer, the “K” in KASH. “There are so many different styles of music and so many different musicians that I’ve gotten to play with that I just can’t get enough of it.”
Kamer, who also plays with the experimental jazz outfit 1 Billion Lions, is a familiar face in Bowling Green’s jazz scene. But KASH wasn’t his usual crew. The lineup was a convergence of fellow BGSU musicians, each usually busy with their own projects.
Miles Anderson, a first-year grad student, brought fluid lines and sharp improvisation on bass, while Tumaini Sango, now in his second year of graduate school, added expressive depth on drums. Pianist Adam Hannah, also a first-year grad student, rounded out the group with textured chord work and melodic subtlety. Hannah regularly performs with the EMP Trio but joined this set as a one-off collaboration.
Their Live & Loud performance didn’t feel like a side project. It felt intentional. Despite limited rehearsal time, KASH delivered a focused, dynamic set built on trust, musicianship, and shared language jazz with classic swing roots, contemporary phrasing, and hints of each member’s broader stylistic influences.
Kramer’s saxophone floated between melodic clarity and harmonic daring, weaving around Hannah’s piano with ease. Anderson and Sango locked in as a rhythm section but never played it safe with each phrase pushing the other to lean in further.
The quartet’s name might be new, but their connection ran deep.
While KASH may not have long-term plans as a permanent band, their Live & Loud debut was a reminder of what’s possible when talented players step out of their usual lanes. It was a set that celebrated collaboration, improvisation, and the spirit of Bowling Green’s music community.
