BGSU hockey junior goaltender Salvatore Evola has announced his commitment to transfer to Mercyhurst via Instagram. The Junior entered the portal on March 30, after the conclusion of his fourth total and third full season with Bowling Green in 2024-25.
This past season, Evola did not play a single game in the Orange and Brown, stuck behind star Christian Stoever and sophomore Cole Moore. In his previous three campaigns, the Rochester, Mich. native played in 11 games, making only two starts in non-conference play and finishing with a 1-1 overall record. His stats include 4.13 goals against on average and a .863 save percentage in 145:09 minutes played as a Falcon.
The incoming senior heads to Erie, Penn. after their finish as dead last in the Pairwise and RPI national rankings systems. Mercyhurst’s main goalie for the 2024-25 season, Carter McPhail, graduated away leaving two underclassmen behind with goals-against averages above 4.0 and save percentages below .900.
Evola is the first transfer Mercyhurst has landed this offseason, with four of their players entering the portal (according to Grand Fork’s Herald portal tracker). Evola is the first Falcon to commit to moving from the portal to their new destination.
