After previously having commitments to Michigan University and Sacred Heart University, Brian Lonergan officially signed with BGSU on Aug. 5.
The 19-year-old, right-handed defenseman will join the Falcons for the upcoming season after spending last season with the United States Hockey League’s (USHL) Omaha Lancers. In his 58 games with the Lancers, Lonergan scored 20 points, made up of three goals and 17 assists, while taking 74 shots.
Before playing in Omaha, the Montvale, New Jersey native spent the 2022-23 season playing predominantly with the Minnesota Wilderness of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) and also appeared in two games for the USHL’s Fargo Force, where he would play his entire 2023-24 campaign.
Lonergan scored four goals and four assists in 48 games during his season in the NAHL. He followed this by scoring one goal and four assists for five points in the next season while playing with Fargo.
During his 2023-24 season with the Fargo Force, Lonergan also appeared in three playoff games and helped the Force to the 2024 Clark Cup championship.
Lonergan and the Falcons will kick off their season on Oct. 4 when Bowling Green will take on Robert Morris University in an exhibition game at the Slater Family Ice Arena.
