BGSU volleyball’s senior opposite hitter, Lauryn Hovey, was named the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Offensive Player of the Week for the second week of the MAC regular season.
The selection follows Bowling Green’s week in West Lafayette, Indiana, where they played three ranked teams and took two of them to five sets.
Hovey had her first two 20+ kill matches of the season, 30 against No. 17 Purdue and 22 against No. 23 Georgia Tech. She added 68 total kills and a .338 hitting percentage to her season statistics, her 30 kills the most for the Waterloo, Ont. native since her career-high 32 vs Central Michigan in 2023.
Not only did Hovey excel in attacking, she added two double-doubles in digs against Kansas and Purdue, 32 digs, five total blocks, and eight aces in 14 sets played over the week. She was a key piece in Bowling Green twice, playing one set away from their first-ranked win since 2013.
Hovey has been named the Offensive Player of the Week 10 times through her first three seasons in Orange and Brown, twice in 2024 and 2022, and six times in 2023. This is the Falcons’ first MAC weekly honor in 2025, first since Nov. 18, 2024, when Hovey was selected as Offensive Player of the Week.
The Falcons sit at 2-4 overall, with three losses to ranked teams in the most difficult non-conference schedule in the MAC.
BG has six more non-conference matches before its MAC opener against Ohio at home. With Indiana, Stephen F. Austin, and Loyola Chicago as the next Bowling Green’s opponents in the upcoming Loyola Invitational in Chicago.
