The deadline to register to vote in Ohio is Oct. 6 and Bowling Green State University (BGSU) offers resources to assist students with the registration process.
BGSU Votes is a nonpartisan, student-led initiative that serves as the campus’s primary resource for election information. While registering to vote might seem like a daunting task, BGSU Votes is here to help and support students with the process.
D’Mya Brown is a philosophy, politics, economics and law (PPEL) major and a student coordinator at BGSU’s C. Raymond Marvin Center for Student Leadership and Civic Engagement. She helps oversee BGSU Votes, and said they have plenty of information to help students.
“The Marvin Center and BGSU Votes is a great resource for students who want to learn more about the voting process and election information,” Brown said. “We can provide non-partisan information on elections and voter registration, and provide students with information on resources that can help them figure out what’s on their ballot.”
Brown also said the process to register to vote is very accessible.
“Students can register in person by obtaining a voter registration form from the Marvin Center, catching us at our tabling events, or from the board of elections directly,” Brown said. “They can also register by going online to the Ohio Secretary of State website. Out-of-state students can go to their home state’s Secretary of State website, or they can register in Ohio using their school address.”
As for where students go to vote once registered, Brown said this is a straightforward process.
“Information on your polling place can be found on the state’s Secretary of State’s website. Often, you’ll get a polling location card in the mail at the address you registered at,” Brown said.
Not everyone will vote on the same issues, but Brown said to find a nonpartisan resource to help you understand what you’re voting on.
“Issues on the ballot will vary by county or city where you are voting. To find what is going to be on your specific ballot, there are nonpartisan resources like vote411.org that can help you research your specific ballot,” Brown said.
Students can visit the BGSU Votes website for more information. Election day in Ohio is on Nov. 4, 2025.
