BGSU hockey (0-2) fell in their second game of the season, conceding the series sweep to the Niagara Purple Eagles (3-0) on Saturday night in Lewiston, New York.
Scoring improved for the Orange and Brown, who were shut out a night prior, but Niagara was hard to stop defensively. Despite taking 11 more shots than the Purple Eagles (34 to 23), the Falcons had far less success on the scoreboard.
Tyler Hotson found the net in the first period to give the Falcons an early lead, but it would prove to be the only lead of the night for Bowling Green.
Niagara managed four goals during the second frame, scoring in both the first 90 seconds and in the last 45 seconds of the period.
Noah Morneau scored in the third period, putting the Falcons back in the game, but Niagara added an empty net goal to seal the game.
Other Notes:
- For Hotson and Morneau, the goals were the first of their Falcon careers.
- Goaltender Tyler Palmer saw the ice for the first time as a Falcon, relieving starter Cole Moore in the third period.
- The series loss against Niagara marks the first time the Falcons have lost their opening two-game series since the 2016-2017 season (Bemidji State).
The Falcons will look to rebound from the losses when they return to the Slater Family Ice Arena for a home game against Windsor (Ontario) on Friday at 7:07 p.m.
