BGSU men’s basketball (1-0) started their season off right with a win in the first leg of the Mid-American Conference vs Sun Belt Conference (SBC) Monday night, as they took down the Texas State Bobcats (0-1), 83-48.
The win for the Falcons marks the third straight home victory over a Sun Belt opponent. Since the inception of the games, the Falcons have remained undefeated at home against SBC teams.
“A lot of the things that we value, this group embodied, and it was fun to see it in action and against a Texas State team that is very well coached,” head coach Todd Simon said.
The Falcons ended the first half on a 13-2-point run, capped off by a buzzer-beating three from Josiah Shackelford, to make the score 40-29 at halftime.
“That’s the fun stuff of coaching, is when guys execute to perfection, ends in good results,” Simon said.
Through the first half of basketball, the two teams committed a combined 19 turnovers.
The Falcons came out of halftime, continuing to build on the momentum they had accumulated before halftime with a six-point run out of the break to make the score 46-29.
A Jaelyn Lee layup ended a nearly seven-minute scoring drought for the Bobcats.
The Falcons ended the game just as they ended the first half of play with an 11-7 point run.
Wol finished his perfect night for the Falcons as the leading scorer with 19 points and kept a perfect shooting night from the field, going 6-6 from the field and 4-4 from three, only missing one free throw in the game.
“That’s my role, just come off the bench, do what I do, I’m gonna do that every night I can,” Wol said after the game.
The Falcons now turn their attention to Bethany College, who they face on Thursday, with tipoff set for 7 p.m. Falcon Media Sports Networks’ own Foster Roesti and Dawson Pelter will have the live radio broadcast, with the pregame show hosted by Holden Ruck, who is joined by Noah Seeley and Sam Bork, which will start at 6:35 p.m.
