While commuters at Bowling Green State University (BGSU) Main Campus are required to pay either $88 for one semester or $144 for a whole year of parking on campus, students at Owens Community College (OCC) and BGSU Firelands pay far less.
In fact, there is no extra cost for Firelands students to register their vehicles for parking. According to OCC Vice President of Strategic Initiatives, Marketing and Communications, Tasha Hussain Black, while parking is not free at OCC, the cost of parking permits does not exceed $18.
Students taking between four and nine credit hours per semester only pay $15, while those taking 10 or more pay $18–a far cry from BGSU’s $88.
Social work major and commuting student, Courtney Miller, said the price of parking is too high.
“Thinking about how much the campus makes off of tuition, meal plans and everything else…it’s ridiculous,” said Miller. “We aren’t paying for housing [when living off campus], so they are trying to find something else for us to pay.
