BGSU men’s basketball senior guard Javontae Campbell has earned Mid-American Conference (MAC) Co-Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
The honor is Campbell’s first weekly award this season and third of his Bowling Green career. Campbell shares the recognition with Kent State’s Morgan Safford.
“He’s healthy, and you’re seeing a very intelligent basketball player at his best,” head coach Todd Simon said.
Campbell is averaging 20.7 points with a nation-leading 17 steals in the first three games of the season against Texas State, Bethany College and Le Moyne.
The Muskogee, Oklahoma, native tied the program record with eight steals in the team’s victory over the Dolphins on Sunday.
The 6-foot-2 guard has two 20-point games and is averaging a steal every five minutes on the court.
He set the Bowling Green single-season record with 90 steals last year while finishing the season with two broken hands. Campbell is currently on pace for 175 steals this regular season.
Next, Campbell and the Falcons will have a break before traveling for the first time this season to face Davidson in North Carolina on Saturday at 6 p.m.
