BGSU men’s basketball announced the first signing of their 2026 recruiting class on Friday, signing KJ Torbert, the No. 2 ranked player in Michigan, according to 247 Sports.
Torbert, a 6-foot-4 guard hailing from East Lansing, Michigan, announced his commitment to the team on Sept. 30, but an evening post from BGSU men’s basketball on X announcing his commitment made it official.
Torbert won a state championship last year with East Lansing High School, being named the State finals MVP, along with being named to the All-State, All-City and All-Conference First Teams.
“We are extremely excited to add KJ to the program. He is a winner and embodies what we want our team to be about. He’s proven at the high school level that he can impact games at the highest level as a state champion and State Finals MVP,” said head coach Todd Simon. “KJ comes from a great family that has been instrumental in his journey. We cannot wait to get to work with KJ and start his legacy at BGSU.”
Torbert’s father, Kelvin Torbert Sr. played basketball at Michigan State from 2001-05.
