During BGSU hockey’s (3-3-3, 3-1-3) weekend series against Minnesota State (5-2-4, 2-1-2) last weekend, freshman forward Noah Morneau scored two goals and finished the weekend with two points, six shots, one blocked shot, and was named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) Rookie of the Week.
Last night, Morneau outscored his performance last weekend in one game during Bowling Green’s 9-5 victory over Ferris State (2-9-0, 1-4-0).
Morneau scored three goals for his first career collegiate hat trick while taking six shots on goal, including a power-play strike and the eventual game-winning goal.
Morneau scored his first goal of the game halfway through the second period by banking a shot from behind the goal line off of FSU’s sophomore goaltender, Martin Lundberg, and into the net.
Morneau’s first of two goals during the third period would come thanks to a rip of a shot from near the right-side faceoff dot. The goal was scored during a power play opportunity and served as the game-winning goal, giving Morneau his first career collegiate power play goal and first career collegiate game-winning goal.
Morneau’s third goal of the game came from a quick shot that beat Lundberg after receiving a pass from behind the goal line from fellow freshman forward Jérémie Minville.
On top of his performance that gave the Windsor, Ontario native his first career collegiate hat trick, power play goal, and game-winning goal, Morneau was also able to extend his lead as the Falcons’ leading goal scorer, having now scored six goals during the campaign. Morneau is also now tied with junior forward Tyler Hotson and fellow freshman forward Dominik Rymon for second place on the team in points, with all three having eight apiece.
Morneau is also tied with junior forward Brody Waters for second place on the team in shots, with both forwards having contributed 22 shots on goal so far this season.
Morneau’s hat trick also marks the first time a Bowling Green player has scored a hat trick since Brody Waters’ hat trick against Ferris State on Nov. 2 during the 2024-25 season.
The Falcons scored a total of nine goals last night, which Morneau attributes to the team’s style of play.
“We cycle pucks, I think, maybe better than anybody,” said Morneau. “When we’re at our best, we’re cycling (the puck) behind the net and changing sides and low to high and honey hole and slot shots and slot chances, taking the puck to the net.”
Morneau and the Falcons will look to finish their weekend series against the Bulldogs with a win tonight at the Slater Family Ice Arena. Falcon Media Sports Network’s Ben Corak will be joined by Nathan Burkett on WBGU 88.1 FM with puck drop scheduled for 6:07 p.m.
