Just two points separate the top three teams in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA): Bemidji State (17), Bowling Green (17), and Michigan Tech (15). The Falcons’ lone loss was dropped to Bemidji State at home in overtime, BG taking at least a point in every CCHA game played this season
Despite averaging just over two points per game played, the last two series (four games) have been the most impressive of the season for Bowling Green.
The second-to-last series brought BG a three-point split with No. 16 Minnesota State. Anyone who follows CCHA hockey knows MSU is maybe the team to beat in the conference, the Falcons playing even with them through 130 minutes and two shootouts.
The most recent series against Ferris State was just as impressive, just in different ways.
The program has scored 14 goals in a two-game series since the 1973-74 season, when they defeated Guelph 10-0 and 11-0. Nine goals in the first game is the most scored individually by BG since 2019 in a nine-goal game against Alabama-Huntsville.
Freshman centerman Noah Morneau and his line of freshman Dominik Rymon and senior Quinn Emerson was the highest scoring line in the CCHA this weekend. The unit had 16 points on Bowling Green’s 14 scores, almost 40% of the team points attributed to just three players.
Rymon finished with two goals and two assists in the first game, scoring a helper in the second game. Emerson scored five assists, four coming on goals scored by Rymon and Morneau. Morneau scored six points on four goals and two assists in the first game, scoring the first hat trick by a Falcon rookie since March of 2012.
In addition to a disgustingly good first line, junior winger Brody Waters found his first goal of the season in the first game, scoring another two in the second. Both he and senior center Jaden Grant scored their first points in five games in the FSU series, with Grant also scoring two goals in the second game.
The Falcon offense now leads CCHA teams during conference play in goals, assists, points, shots on goal, power-play percentage and faceoff percentage.
Bowling Green heads to St. Paul, Minnesota, to play St. Thomas at the new Lee and Penny Anderson Arena on Friday and Saturday. Falcon Media Sports Network’s Nathan Burkett will have the call on WBGU 88.1 FM.
