Matchup History
These two teams have met only once in history, with the Falcons taking the first and only win.
They last faced each other in 1949, where the Falcons welcomed the Griffins to Bowling Green and won, 74-58.
Scouting William & Mary
William & Mary are in the midst of a two-game losing streak after opening the season by winning their first two games.
The Griffins are led by Reese Miller, their sixth man in scoring. Averaging 12.5 on 44.7% from the field and 41.2% from behind the arc, the junior guard will provide a much-needed spark. He also has the second most assists on the team with 11.
Kilian Brockhoff is the anchor in the paint for William & Mary, leading the team in rebounds with 6.3 a game. Standing at only 6–foot–9, Brockhoff has been one of the top rebounders in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA)
William & Mary comes into this game with the third-best offense in the CAA with 83.4 points per game. The team that does most of their work behind the arc, making 36 threes through four games this season, shooting 32.4% from the three-point line.
Scouting Bowling Green
After losing their first game of the season on the road at Davidson, the Falcons look to get back into the winning column.
Leading the Falcons is senior guard Javontae Campbell, who leads the team in scoring with 20.8 points per game, second in the Mid-American Conference (MAC). It’s not just scoring but defensive pressure that Campbell brings; he leads the MAC by over 2.5 steals, averaging 4.8 steals a game.
Campbell is joined in the back court by Josiah Shackelford, who has been steadily increasing his scoring each game this season. Shackelford has been a great scoring punch to the starting lineup, taking pressure off Campbell and helping to stretch the floor for bigs to control the paint offensively.
Falcon Four Players to Watch
Justin Thomas (Bowling Green #25)
Thomas has quietly become one of the most interesting players on the roster. Filling up the stat sheet against Davidson, leading the team in assists, steals, and tied in first for rebounds. He may not be the flashiest, but he keeps the offense flowing.
The veteran on the roster has been a steady hand for the Falcons this season. Averaging 11 points and five rebounds, Towns has been key to the team’s success. Continued success for him will add another level to the Falcons’ offense.
The guard started only two games last year, but this year he has been a full-time starter. With a score-first mentality, Pulliam looks for any opening to make the defense pay. Shooting 35.3% from three, look for him to get started behind the arc early in the game.
As stated earlier, the forward is the leading rebounder for the Griffins. That is not the only spot that he affects the game at, though, as Brockhoff is a willing three-point shooting big. He averages 3.5 shots from behind the arc a game, and that helps to open the paint for the guards to get downhill.
