BGSU men’s basketball (6-2) traveled to Manhattan, Kansas (5-3) to take on the Kansas State Wildcats where they would leave victorious after an 82-66 win.
The win for the Falcons is their first Power 4 win since 2005, when they traveled to Virginia Tech and won 72-71.
The Falcons got the game started with a quick 5-0 run behind Troy Glover II’s layup and a Justin Thomas 3-pointer.
Kansas State would pull the game within one point early in the first half of play with a 3-pointer from Abdi Bashir Jr. to make the score 9-8.
The two teams would trade baskets with Josiah Shackelford and Sam Towns combining to knock down three straight threes for the Orange and Brown to put the lead at 25-19.
Each run by the Wildcats to close in on the Falcons’ lead was shut down by the Falcons with a big shot to give the Falcons momentum.
Shackelford hit a three-point shot with 17 seconds remaining to make the lead going into halftime 49 35.
Towns ended the first half of play with 17 points on 7-8 from the field and 3-3 from three-point range to lead the Falcons.
Out of the halftime break, P.J. Haggerty got the Wildcats’ offense started, knocking down a layup and three free throws.
It would be David Castillo for Kansas State to get the momentum rolling as he would go on an 8-2 run by himself to make the Falcon lead 11 at 59-48.
As the second half went on, the teams matched shot for shot as the Falcons held a steady lead over the Wildcats at 72-61.
The Orange and Brown capped off the game with a 10-5 point run to make the final score 82-66.
Bowling Green was led by Towns with 27 points and 8 rebounds. Not far behind were Javontae Campbell and Ruffin with 17 points each.
The offense for the Falcons was scorching as they shot a combined 45% from the field (28-62) and 46% (12-26) from three.
The Falcons held NCAA leading scorer Haggerty to only 17 points, marking the second straight game he has been held below 20 points.
BGSU had plenty of second-chance opportunities that they capitalized on with 17 second-chance points from 15 offensive rebounds.
The Falcons are back in action on Saturday, Dec. 6, as they welcome Utah Valley to the Stroh Center. Falcon Media Sports Networks’ Foster Roesti and Dawson Pelter will have the live radio broadcasts with tip-off set for 1 p.m. and the pregame show set to start at 12:45 p.m.
