BGSU hockey (7-4-3, 5-2-3) announced on Nov. 25 that the team would be competing in the 2026 Ice Breaker Tournament next season.
The tournament will be held on Oct. 9 and 10, 2026, and will be cohosted at Sacred Heart University’s Martire Family Arena and UConn’s Toscano Family Ice Forum in Fairfield and Mansfield, Connecticut.
The Falcons will be one of four teams competing in the tournament, with each team representing different conferences across college hockey.
The Falcons, who will be representing the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA), will be competing with the Sacred Heart Pioneers (7-6-1, 4-3-1) of the Atlantic Hockey Association (AHA), the UConn Huskies (7-5-3, 5-3-1) of Hockey East, and Penn State (11-5-0, 4-4-0) of the Big Ten.
The Ice Breaker Tournament was founded in 1997, with the first tournament being hosted by Wisconsin (10-2-2, 6-2-0) and won by Michigan State (11-3-0, 4-2-0).
The 2025 Ice Breaker Tournament was hosted and won by Arizona State University (7-8-1, 3-4-1).
2026 will mark Bowling Green’s first appearance in the tournament since 2019, when the Orange and Brown hosted the tournament at the Huntington Center in Toledo. It will be the third time the Falcons compete in the Ice Breakers tournament, having previously competed in 2019 and 2001.
