Breck McKinley has been named as this week’s CCHA Defenseman of the Week following the junior defenseman’s performance during BGSU hockey’s (8-5-3, 6-3-3) weekend series against the Northern Michigan University Wildcats (1-17-0, 1-9-0).
McKinley finished the weekend with one goal, two assists, seven shots, and recorded a +3 +/- rating.
McKinley recorded the majority of his stats during Bowling Green’s 4-3 overtime victory on Saturday night. McKinley scored all three of his points during the contest, including assisting on senior forward Quinn Emerson’s game-winning goal in the dying minutes of regulation before scoring the game-winning goal himself in overtime.
McKinley has amassed one goal and 13 assists for 14 points on the season while taking 27 shots.
McKinley is currently tied with Emerson for the team lead in assists and +/- rating (+8) while being tied with freshman forward Dominik Rymon for second place on the Falcon roster in points.
This week’s honor marks the second time in the St. Albert, Alberta native’s career that he has won a CCHA weekly award, having previously won the CCHA Defenseman of the Week during November of last season after having a two-point (one goal and one assist) weekend against St. Thomas.
This award also marks the fourth time a Falcon has been honored with a CCHA weekly award this season with freshman forwards Noah Morneau winning the Rookie of the Week award following the Minnesota State series (Nov. 7 and 8) and the Forward of the Week award after the Ferris State series (Nov. 14 and 15) while Rymon claimed the Rookie of the Week award following the same Ferris State weekend.
