BGSU hockey’s junior forward Tyler Hotson has been named this week’s CCHA Forward of the Week. Hotson scored a total of five points during BGSU’s (9-5-4, 6-3-3) series against in-state rival Ohio State (6-11-1, 2-6-0).
The Falcons secured a 2-2 tie on Friday night before falling in the shootout and then went on to claim a 5-3 victory on Saturday, marking the first time the Falcons had defeated the Buckeyes since the 2018-19 season.
Hotson was credited with an assist during Friday night’s game before exploding offensively on Saturday by producing two goals and two assists.
He finished the weekend with a stat line that included two goals, three assists, five points, six shots on goal, a power-play goal, and two blocked shots.
Hotson’s strong weekend performance lifts his season’s statistics to seven goals (tied for the team lead), 10 assists, 17 points (tied for second place on the team), four power-play goals (team lead), and a plus-minus rating of +8 (tied for second place on the team).
Hotson winning the Forward of the Week award marks the fifth time this season a Falcon has earned a CCHA weekly honor with junior defenseman Breck McKinley winning the Defenseman of the Week award following the Northern Michigan Series (Dec. 5 and 6) and freshman forward Noah Morneau winning the Rookie of the Week after the Minnesota State series (Nov. 7 and 8) and the Forward of the Week after the Ferris State series (Nov. 14 and 15) while Dominik Rymon claimed his own Rookie of the Week award following the same Ferris State series.
