Quinn Emerson has been no stranger to the scoresheet this season as the senior forward for the Orange and Brown led the team in points heading into BGSU hockey’s (11-5-4, 8-3-3) series against Ferris State (4-20-0, 3-13-0) in Big Rapids, Michigan.
The Falcons would emerge from the series with a 3-1 and 5-1 victory on Friday and Saturday night respectively to secure the weekend and season sweep over the Bulldogs as the Falcons had previously swept the Crimson and Gold by score lines of 9-5 and 5-2 during the two teams’ previous series at the Slater Family Ice Arena earlier this season.
While Emerson was held off the scoresheet in BG’s 3-1 victory on Friday, the Manhattan Beach, California native would explode offensively in the second game of the series by contributing three assists and a goal during BGSU’s 5-1 victory on Saturday night.
Emerson’s three assists were all primary assists as he stood as the last pass to set up the goals scored by junior defenseman and alternate captain Gustav Stjernberg, freshman forward Dominik Rymon, and senior forward and alternate captain Jaden Grant for the Falcons’ first, third, and fourth goals of the game.
Emerson would score Bowling Green’s fifth and final goal of the game himself via a one-timer from the slot.
Emerson’s four-point performance marks a season and career best for points in a game for the forward, with his previous best being three points in a single match, which he accomplished in a game against Ferris State earlier this season (Nov. 14) and a game against Lake Superior State during his sophomore campaign (Feb. 9).
The strong performance also boosted his season stats to six goals and 17 assists (leads team) for 23 points (leads team) while also having a team-leading +/- rating of +11.
Emerson and the Falcons’ next challenge will be a home series at the Slater Family Ice Arena against the Lakers of Lake Superior State University (8-13-1, 5-9-0) on Jan. 16 and 17.
