With the season in full swing for the Falcons and plenty of changes being made to the starting lineup, one player has started to make an argument to be a full-time starter.
Mayar Wol has quickly become a great offensive option for BGSU since being inserted into the starting lineup.
When Wol starts to get the shot to fall its almost impossible for the opposing team to stop him.
“Just a fantastic scorer. He’s the guy that we’ve got a whole set of. I think I ran 20 plays for him, just because when he gets going, there’s nothing you can do,” head coach Todd Simon said.
Scoring is exactly what he is doing, averaging 21.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.0 assist and 2.0 steals per game, the forward has shown that he can fill it up at the highest level.
While the team begins to heal after a week off of play, Wol has put Simon in a position where he must choose who to leave in the starting lineup.
With the way that Wol has played recently, his fit in the starting lineup should be something that stays the same.
Not only has he shown that when starting he can add one of the best scoring punches to the lineup, but he can clog the passing lanes, helping to lead to fast break opportunities for the Orange and Brown.
For the season, he is averaging 12.7 points per game, which puts him at No. 25 in the Mid-American Conference (MAC), making him the third Falcon on the list, and one of seven players to have less than 80 field goals scored.
He is a highly effective off-ball scorer who can find an open spot to shoot behind the arc, Wol only needs a little space to make the defense pay. Shooting an astounding 45.1% on 3-pointers, Wol is the only Falcon with more than 25 triples attempted to have a percentage that high.
While being so good at scoring in the spot-up once he has shown his ability, their teams close out harder on him that is where his downhill ability shines. Wol has a 55.5% field goal percentage, which makes him one of the top on the team in that category.
Sometimes when a player finds a role in the starting lineup, it is hard to take them out of it, as they are in a great rhythm, and right now, Wol is at that point. It would not be the right move to take him out of the starting five, as he adds a new dimension that stretches teams thin around the 3-point arc.
