BGSU men’s basketball defeated Western Michigan 72-54 in dominant fashion at Read Fieldhouse on Tuesday night.
Bowling Green’s defense bullied the Broncos, forcing 15 turnovers. The Falcons recorded 10 steals and seven blocks, while holding WMU to shooting only 33.9% from the field and 23.1% on 3-pointers.
Meanwhile, Bowling Green shot 46.2% from the floor, 27.3% from deep and 81.3% on free throws.
Senior guard Javontae Campbell impacted the game in every facet, tallying 20 points, nine rebounds—including three offensive boards—seven assists, five steals and one block in 38 minutes.
Senior forward Sam Towns recorded his third 20-point performance of the season, also grabbing nine rebounds and dishing out three assists.
Senior forward Troy Glover II posted a near double-double, totaling nine points and nine assists, also rejected four shots and swiped three steals.
Redshirt senior guard Justice Williams was the only Bronco to score double-digits, tallying 18 points.
Bowling Green found success early, going on a 10-0 run over two minutes, which was capped by six straight points by Campbell, to take an early 17-8 lead with 12-and-a-half minutes remaining.
Western Michigan responded with an 8-0 run to make it a one-point game before the Falcons fought back with an 8-0 run of their own, giving BG a 32-23 lead at halftime.
Bowling Green never looked back.
After a 6-0 run early in the second half, the Falcons held a double-digit lead for the rest of the contest. Bowling Green went on a late 10-0 run, pushing their lead to a game-high 24 points with just over four minutes remaining. The Orange and Brown led for 34-and-a-half minutes.
BGSU outscored Western Michigan 34-14 in the paint and 21-4 in fast break opportunities.
Next, Bowling Green will head to Savage Arena to battle their rivals, the Toledo Rockets, on Saturday at 5 p.m.
