The Hockey Humanitarian Award Foundation awards the Hockey Humanitarian Award annually to “college hockey’s finest citizen”.
The award encompasses both NCAA Men’s and Women’s hockey at both the Division I and Division III levels and is awarded to the college hockey player who “makes significant contributions not only to his or her team but also to the community-at-large through leadership in volunteerism.”
The Hockey Humanitarian Award Foundation announced the 12 Nominees for the 2026 award on Jan. 20.
Among the 12 athletes nominated was BGSU hockey’s own Jack Blake.
The Senior defender has appeared in 11 games and recorded two assists on the ice so far this season.
Off the ice, Blake has been involved in multiple service initiatives in the Bowling Green area and his home community of Los Angeles.
According to the press release from BGSU hockey, Blake, as a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), has been involved with organizing annual canned food drives which supported families in the Bowling Green area, improved access to hydration opportunities for all Bowling Green student-athletes by helping implement a new water fountain system outside the gym at the Sebo Center, has been championing the installation of new bike racks for student-athletes, supporting improved hand sanitizer availability in the gym and pushing for improved recycling system in BGSU’s athletic facilities.
Jack Blake has also volunteered with hockey clinics put on by the BG Ice Cats and has helped organize and lead hockey camps and clinics for U-18 and U-16 players with the Los Angeles Jr. Kings during the summer months.
The 2026 Hockey Humanitarian Award finalists will be announced in February, and the winner will be announced during the NCAA Men’s Frozen Four on April 10.
