BGSU hockey (13-6-4, 10-4-3) kicked off their weekend series against the Bemidji State Beavers (9-13-3, 7-7-3) with a 3-1 victory on Friday night.
BGSU’s Ben Doran would play a major role in the Falcons’ win as the junior forward would score two goals during the contest.
Doran would kick off the scoring for the Falcons in the second period while on a power-play opportunity by capitalizing on an up-close opportunity with Bemidji State’s freshman netminder Max Hildebrand.
Doran’s second goal of the contest would come in the dying moments of the third period as the Chesterfield, Missouri native scored on an empty net to put the game on ice in favor of the Falcons with just 11.5 seconds remaining in the third frame of play.
This is the second time in Doran’s collegiate career that he has produced a two-goal game, with the previous performance coming last season during BG’s 3-2 loss to Bemidji State on Feb. 21.
Doran was also tied with redshirt senior defenseman Jackson Niedermayer for the team lead in shots on goal during Friday night’s game with four, and went .500 from the faceoff dots by winning nine of the 18 faceoffs he was assigned.
Doran’s two goals bring his season total to five, to go along with 15 assists for 20 total points on the season so far. Doran is now second on the team in points behind senior forward Quinn Emerson’s 25.
In his time with the Orange and Brown, Doran has faced BSU seven times and has scored five goals and two assists over those games while taking a total of 15 shots over the seven contests.
Doran and the Falcons will look to close out the weekend sweep of the Beavers of Bemidji State tonight, Jan. 24, at BSU’s Sanford Center with puck drop scheduled for 7:07 p.m.
Falcon Media Sports Network’s Ben Corak will have the call live from Bemidji, Minnesota, on WBGU 88.1 FM.
