BGSU hockey’s Jackson Niedermayer earned Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) Defenseman of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
The honor is the senior’s first weekly award of his career with Bowling Green.
Niedermayer led all CCHA defensemen with three assists during his weekend, all in game two of BG’s sweep of Bemidji State in Bemidji, Minnesota. He skated an average of about 20 minutes in both games, earning a +4 rating and a career high in assists and points on the second night.
The Newport Beach, California, native has two more assists and points than last season in 13 fewer games played this season. He is just four points away from his highest career point total, when he had nine goals, four assists and 13 points the season before transferring to BG from Arizona State in the 2023-24 campaign.
He is the third-highest-scoring active defenseman on the Falcon roster, behind freshman Brayden Crampton by a point and junior Breck MicKinley by 10. Niedermayer started the season as a forward, but has since scored all but one assist as a defenseman, transitioning during the first Bemidji State series in late October.
Niedermayer is the second Falcon defenseman to earn the award, with McKinley earning it in the final series of 2025. He is the seventh BG Hockey player to earn a weekly award this season.
Nidermayer and the Falcons next compete against Notre Dame on Jan. 30 and 31, the first in Notre Dame, Indiana, and the second in front of a sold-out crowd in Bowling Green’s Slater Family Ice Arena. Both games will be broadcast on WBGU 88.1 FM and streamed on bgfalconmedia.com.
