After making his last start vs Akron on Jan. 9, BGSU men’s basketball sophomore guard Josiah Shackelford returned to the starting lineup vs Ball State, scoring 21 points on 7-14 shooting, tying his season high in points in a 77-52 win over the Cardinals.
Shackelford had only made seven starts this season heading into the game against Ball State, with Bowling Green running a lineup that included Shackelford and Justin Thomas getting the start.
“It doesn’t matter whether we start or not, I think we’re a pretty deep, eight deep, nine deep on the team,” said Shackelford.
The 6-foot-4 sophomore guard began his night with a high-scoring first half, exiting the first with 15 total points on 6-for-9 shooting. Shackelford added six more points in the second to finish with 21 points.
“I’m just glad we won, to be honest. We played good as a team on the defensive end, held them to only 52 points, which is great,” said Shackelford.
Win they did, as Shackelford’s performance elevated an already successful night for Bowling Green, snapping a three-game losing streak with a 77-52 win over Ball State.
“Joe’s efforts always going to be fantastic, he’s made right,” said head coach Todd Simon. “He’s one of our hardest workers, if not the hardest worker, and he wants to be; he wants to do things the right way.”
