BGSU hockey (15-7-6, 12-5-3) claimed a 3-1 victory over the No. 15 St. Thomas Tommies (18-9-3, 15-5-2) on Saturday night.
While the goals came from three different players, one skater was there for all three, as junior forward Ben Doran finished the game with a goal and two assists.
Doran would score the Falcons’ first goal of the game off a rebound in the first period before assisting on freshman forward Dominik Rymon and senior defenseman Jackson Niedermayer’s goals in the second period as the Falcons skated to a 3-1 victory and claimed three points towards the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) standings.
Doran finished the weekend with four points, made up of a goal and three assists, after adding his three-point performance to his assist scored on Friday.
Doran’s three points mark a season high for points in a game and only the second three-point game in the Chesterfield, Missouri, native’s college career.
On top of scoring three points, Doran also recorded two shots on goal, a +2 +/- rating, and blocked two St. Thomas shots over the course of the game.
Doran’s season stats now read: seven goals, 19 assists, and 26 points, while taking 64 shots on goal, which rank him third on the team in points and shots on goal, and second in points.
On top of ranking highly on the team in multiple categories, Doran has also set new career highs for assists and points in a season, while currently being tied for his season best in power-play goals (three) and game-winning goals (two).
“I think I gotta give it to this team,” said Doran. “I’m playing with some really good guys and kinda owe everything to them.”
Next weekend, Doran and the Falcons will travel to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to face Augustana University (18-9-3, 12-7-2) at Augustana’s Midco Arena.
