The Bowling Green State University (BGSU) College of Arts and Sciences is hosting its February In The Round Community Reads Gathering on Saturday, Feb. 21, from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Rotary Nature Center at Wintergarden/St. John’s Nature Preserve.
This month’s In The Round gathering will revolve around excerpts from Dr. Robin Wall Kimmerer’s book, “Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teaching of Plants,” which will be the primary focus of discussion.
The event is free and open to the public and will be led by Amilcar Challu, history department chair, and Madi Smith, external engagement coordinator for the Honors College.
During the event, attendees will get to explore the intersection of Indigenous wisdom, ecology and storytelling, as well as take part in the campus-wide series unpacking lessons from “Braiding Sweetgrass.”
Throughout the 2025-2026 BGSU academic year, In The Round has highlighted Kimmerer’s “Braiding Sweetgrass” at several events on campus and in Wood County.
Also, this year, more than 25 BGSU faculty members have incorporated the book into their course content.
