On Saturday, March 28, Ziggython hosted its 31st annual fundraising event at the Perry Field House, bringing together community members and Bowling Green State University (BGSU) students for a good cause.
Ziggython is a 10-hour Dance Marathon event dedicated to raising funds for Nationwide Children’s Hospital Toledo.
The event is part of the broader Dance Marathon movement, a nationwide organization that unites students to support their local Children’s Miracle Network hospitals through these year-round fundraising events. These efforts provide resources, funds and support for the children and their families.
The event’s under-the-sea theme was reflected in the ocean decor and activities. Attendees had the chance to stop at different stations, including crafts and interactive experiences, including indoor bike riding, soccer and a bounce house. Others participated in dance lessons and had a live DJ to play music during the rave hours.
A wall displaying the names of Miracle Children stood as a reminder of some of the children who have been impacted by the event and supported by its mission.
Many of these Miracle Children were in attendance at the event, as well as students from BGSU, consisting of individuals and campus organizations. For many, the event was an opportunity to get involved with the local community.
Addy Jacobs, a BGSU student and first-time attendee of Ziggython, said, “I just really wanted to come to get involved… I think it’s a really good opportunity and place where you can get a lot of exposure to philanthropy and supporting the kids with cancer.”
For some, their connection to the cause was deeper than participation alone.
Ava Kunakowsky, a Kappa Delta Sorority member, said, “What motivated me to come here was my cousin Miles because he’s a cancer survivor, so being here really is awesome to see the community that I’m in support it.”
Despite their different motivations for attending, many participants shared a common perspective on the event’s impact.
Charli Wendt, another BGSU student, said, “It’s just a great way to get involved. Even if you’re unsure of what [Ziggython] is, there are so many events that you can do, and just show up, even if you don’t have any friends, you’ll meet so many friends here.”
By the end of the 10-hour event, Ziggython 2026 raised a total of $32,580.44 for the children and their families at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Toledo, highlighting the community’s commitment to supporting this cause.
