BGSU men’s basketball senior guard Javontae Campbell plans to enter the transfer portal, according to Tobias Bass of The Athletic.
Campbell spent the last two seasons with the Orange and Brown. He was named the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Defensive Player of the Year this past season, along with being named to the All-MAC First Team and the MAC All-Defensive Team twice.
Campbell entered the transfer portal last year before returning to the Falcons.
“He’s (Campbell) graduated. So, his eligibility kind of ran its course with his four years. He had two years JUCO, two years here, and as of right now, is on the other side. They have those guys that were in their last year eligibility, but they have not done that for any other groups going forward,” BGSU head coach Todd Simon said on Campbell’s situations after the season ended. “Right now, by the letter of the law, his (Campbell) eligibility is up. Who knows, those things the NCAA change with the drop of a hat, but he’ll be moving on, and we’ll see if any of those things change.”
The 6-foot-2 guard averaged 18.2 points and 4.5 rebounds per game, and led the nation in steals per game (3.0). Campbell owns the record for most steals in a single season (96) for Bowling Green.
The transfer portal officially opens on April 7. Campbell is the third Falcon to declare his intentions to enter the portal, joining Mayar Wol and Jaxon Pardon.
