For the first time this season, BGSU volleyball (5-5) were home at the Stroh Center against the Oakland Grizzlies (0-10). The Falcons found themselves a little beaten up after their nine straight road games.
“A bit of an untraditional lineup and our players didn’t bat an eye, we’re really proud of them for it,” said head coach Alex DelPiombo after the game.
The Orange and Brown felt a sense of relief and comfort after finally being able to play in their own stadium.
“It feels great. We’re really excited to play at home. We love playing in the Stroh, we love our fans,” DelPiombo said postgame.
The Falcons had a strong offensive performance, putting up 37 kills and a .206 hitting percentage as a team.
Outside hitter Marin Dunaway performed very strongly as well. She had 10 kills and 26 total attacks off a .192 hitting percentage.
“Marin is a spark plug. She’s really fiery, she’s really competitive. I knew she was a winner, that’s why I recruited her,” said DelPiombo while praising Dunaway.
In the first home game of her BGSU career, outside hitter Avery Hobson played especially well, putting up 13 kills and 32 total attacks with a .250 hitting percentage.
“It feels great finally being at home in front of this community and just getting our first win here too,” Hobson said after the game’s conclusion. She also spoke of her performance, “Things just like the team aspect of it, I feel like everyone has bought into the fact of doing their part.”
