After securing their first home win of the season, BGSU volleyball (5-5) is on the road again for the Kathy DeBoar Invitational hosted by MSU in East Lansing, Michigan.
The Falcons will face off against the Spartans on Friday, Sept. 19 at 6 p.m., and battle the Binghamton Bearcats on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 3 p.m.
Michigan State and BG have played each other a total of 11 times, with the Falcons going 4-7 against the Spartans all-time. However, the Orange and Brown did win the last time these two squads went toe-to-toe in 2011, beating MSU at home in four sets.
The Bearcats and the Falcons saw one another very recently in the first round of NIVC last season, where Bowling Green advanced to the next round by means of a four-set win. The Falcons are 2-0 all-time against Binghamton.
Scouting Michigan State
So far this season, the Spartans are undefeated, sporting a 7-0 record in non-conference play. Their schedule has been weaker than the Falcons however, with MSU facing no ranked teams.
The team’s last match against Appalachian State went to a fifth set, which the Spartans won by a final score of 15-10. Michigan State junior outside hitter Karolina Staniszewska had a game-high 19 kills in the Spartans’ victory.
The six-foot outside hitter is an impact player for MSU. In the 2025 season, Staniszewska had 70 kills on a .215 hitting percentage with 39 digs and 15 total blocks.
Scouting Binghampton
In their 2025 campaign, Binghamton has gone 4-6 in non-conference play until this point. They are currently riding a three-game winning streak going into the invitational.
In the Bearcats’ last matchup, they faced Bucknell University, winning in five sets against the Bison. Sophomore outside hitter Briana Binagi had herself 16 kills on a .536 hitting percentage.
Binagi has been a great offensive weapon for the Bearcats this season. She has 77 kills on a .196 hitting percentage, as well as 47 digs and 11 total blocks.
Scouting Bowling Green
BG has started the year 4-5, entering their last weekend of non-conference play before the MAC volleyball season begins. Not counting nationally ranked opponents, head coach Alex DelPiombo’s team is 4-1.
The Falcons are fresh off a three-game winning streak, besting Stephen F. Austin, Loyola Chicago, and Oakland. The team looks to add to that winning streak heading into this weekend.
Redshirt-freshman outside hitter Marin Dunaway has been playing phenomenally in her first three matches as a Falcon. She has 37 kills with a .237 hitting percentage and three total blocks in only three games.
The first match of the invitational between the Falcons and the Spartans will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Sept. 19. Be sure to tune into Falcon Media Sports Network’s Ben Corak on WBGU 88.1 FM for coverage of both matches.
