BGSU men’s soccer (2-3-2) travel to Chicago, Illinois, to take on the DePaul Blue Demons (2-1-5) in a 3:00 p.m. game on Tuesday.
Bowling Green is coming off a 3-0 loss to Bellarmine, a game where they were down a player after defender Caio Tascheto was given a red card early in the first half of play.
DePaul, in their last game, tied 1-1 with Villanova for their fifth tie of the season.
This match marks the seventh time they have met all-time, and the Falcons hold the lead with the record set at 4-0-2. The last time these teams met ended in a 0-0 tie.
Scouting DePaul
The Blue Demons are led in scoring by Keagan Pace with four goals in six games. Pace has not played in the last two matchups against Drake and Villanova. Close after Pace, there are three players with two goals apiece.
Santiago Davila is the goalkeeper who anchors the DePaul defense. On average, Davila gives up one goal per game, but the keeper has faced 21 shots this season in eight games.
The defensive line is led by redshirt juniors Christian Baumgartner and Ethan Gordon, who have both started all eight games this season. Both defenders have plenty of skills to affect the offensive side of the game, with Baumgartner having two goals and Gordon having two assists.
The DePaul offense has been the strongest part of their season so far, only being shut out once against Drake.
Scouting Bowling Green
The Falcons’ offense is led by Bennett Painter and Trace Terry. Terry has four goals and Painter has two, and those goals are the only ones scored by any Falcon this season so far. The pair combined for 25 goals last season and are already on a good start to the season offensively.
The defense will look to return to form after giving up three goals vs Bellarmine. Junior defenseman Saul Rios was the only defender who played all 90 minutes last game, with sixth-year defender Aiden Messinger getting 62 minutes off the bench, tied for the second most time for the defense.
“Really disappointing performance. Score aside, red care aside, we just game out really flat,” Head Coach Eric Nichols said after the game against Bellarmine. The Falcons will look to have a different edge against DePaul.
Falcon Four Players to Watch
Enzo Gil, #1 Junior Goalkeeper
Gil gave up a season high in goals in the last game against Bellarmine while the team was down a player. Facing five shots on goal and only saving two of them, the Junior looks to bounce back and help get the Falcons back on track before starting conference play.
Trace Terry, #21 Senior Forward
After scoring in two straight games, Terry was held to only two shots, with neither of them being on goal. If the Falcons want to bounce back, they will look to Terry to help right the ship. Getting the offense flowing through the high-powered striker will play a large part in the team’s success as a whole.
Tyler Flowers, #16 RS Freshman Midfielder
Flowers scored the lone goal for DePaul off the bench for his first goal of the season. The midfielder has been a consistent presence off the bench, playing in all eight matches this season. Expect to see him come off the bench and provide a spark for the Blue Devils as they look to add another win to their season total.
Noeh Hernandez, #10 Junior Midfielder
Another attacking midfielder, Hernandez, has two goals this season and is a full-time starter for DePaul. The Blue Devils have looked towards Hernandez for shot attempts this season and he has answered the call, getting 19 shot attempts up this season.
