BGSU volleyball (8-6, 2-0) defeated the Kent State Golden Flashes (5-8,0-2) in three straight sets in a Friday night match in the Stroh.
Even though this is two straight Mid-American Conference (MAC) wins for Bowling Green the team, from coaches to players, has the same mentality of the job is not anywhere close to being finished.
“Think that we’re going to come out of the weekend with a lot of things we can get better, learned a lot about ourselves against two good opponents,” head coach Alex DelPiombo said. “It’s nice to win and still learn lesson, and I thought that is what happened tonight.”
For the Falcons to come out and win their first two MAC games it is extremely important. As the difference between first and second place in the conference can be decided by one game and team knows.
“I think it’s important, because, to win the MAC Championship, all of those wins, it’s been very few times in the last couple of years that the MAC regular season is more than a game or two behind. Getting out 2-0 matters because it’s the difference between first and second place,” DelPiombo said.
It’s not just the coaching staff that is going to hold the players accountable, but each player is ready to hold each other to a high standard to get to the point where they want to be.
“Our goal is MAC championship and that starts now. So, we are grateful for the two wins, and we also know that we’re going to take what we did this weekend and learn from it,” middle blocker Helen Wilford said. “Go into Monday practice ready to learn and ready to compete and prepare for next weekend.”
Every game matters in the MAC and this Falcons team knows it and they are prepared to put in the work and even when getting two wins in a row they know they have room for improvement.
The constant want to get better is evident in the way the team hold each other to a high standard. Even after a win they are looking for ways to improve and keep moving towards the end goal of the season.
Look for the Orange and Brown to constantly be finding new areas to improve up and to take the things that they already do well to look even better as the season progresses.
The Falcons are back in action on Friday Oct. 3 as they travel to Ypsilanti, Michigan to take on the Eastern Michigan Eagles.
