BGSU volleyball (13-12, 7-6) fell to the Miami (OH) RedHawks (12-13, 6-7) on Halloween night in Oxford, Ohio, in five sets.
For the Orange and Brown, this is the fourth time in the last six games that they have been in a five-set match.
The Falcons and RedHawks started the first set off by trading points. Until a kill from Edyta Waclawczyk would give the Falcons a 5-3 lead.
Miami would fight right back into the set and even take a three-point lead off a Reagan Lantz kill, making it 15-12
As the Falcons fought to get back into the first set, they would never reclaim the lead but would come within one point plenty of times; they would eventually fall in the first set 25-22.
In the second set, the RedHawks would strike first, but service aces from Sydnie Hernandez and Avery Hobson got the Falcons back on top.
The two teams would then trade points with neither truly taking a decisive lead.
Another kill by Waclawczyk got the Falcons within one point of winning the match, but a last-second push by Miami tied the game at 24.
The RedHawks would take the lead at 27-26, but the Falcons would then make a three-point run to win the second set 29-27.
As the third set got underway, the RedHawks grabbed a quick 2-0 lead, but the Falcons tied it up on a service error and an attack error by the RedHawks.
After the errors on the RedHawks, they would get back on track and open a 20-14-point lead off a kill by Molly Creech.
Miami would take a commanding victory in the third set by eight points, 25-18.
The RedHawks jumped out to a quick 5-1-point lead in the fourth set.
BGSU would fight its way back into the set and tie it up at 13 apiece. After they tied the match, the two teams would trade points all the way to 25 points.
All tied at 25, the Falcons would rattle off two points to take set four and force a set five match.
To start set five, the RedHawks would play with a two-point advantage at 4-2.
The Orange and Brown would fight back and make it the eight-point mark first as the teams switch sides with the score 8-6.
After the side switch, BGSU would hold that three-point lead at 13-10. Needing only two points to win the set.
The RedHawks would rally after a kill by Lauren Coyne and go on a five-point run to take the final set 15-10 and win the game 3-2.
The Falcons are back in action on Saturday, Nov. 1, as they take on the Miami RedHawks for game two of their weekend meeting. With the first serve set for 4 p.m., Andrew Smith will be on site for the live radio broadcast on Falcon Radio.
