BGSU women’s tennis (6-7, 0-1) faced a tough road test against Massachusetts (9-3, 1-0) at the Bay Road Indoor Tennis Center in Amherst, Massachusetts, where the Falcons ultimately fell, 6-1. 

Early struggles in doubles 

UMass started the day by taking the doubles portion of the contest to earn the match’s first point. 

The pairing of Konstantina Adamopoulou and Kiera Taylor dropped their No. 3 doubles match 6-2, while the No. 1 duo of Tia Clemens and Qianyu Liu fell 6-1. However, the Falcons showed a strong start in the No. 2 slot, where Libby Blair and Leticia Fonseca held a 4-2 lead before their match was marked unfinished. 

Battles in singles 

UMass carried their momentum into singles play, winning five of the six matchups. 

Despite the team loss, Taylor delivered a strong showing for the Falcons in the No. 3 singles spot. Taylor secured BGSU’s sole point of the day by defeating Martina Pavissich in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. 

Several other Falcons fought hard in their respective matchups. Adamopoulou bounced back after dropping her first set 6-0, taking the second set 6-3 before narrowly falling in a grueling 11-9 third-set tiebreaker against Madara Markevica. Blair also battled closely in the second set of her No. 4 match but ultimately fell 6-1, 7-5. 

Clemens, Liu and Fonesca rounded out the lineup, with Clemens dropping her sets 6-0 and 6-3, Liu falling 6-1, 6-1 and Fonseca taking a 6-4 loss in the first set before dropping the second 6-0.
