BGSU hockey’s graduating redshirt senior defenseman Jackson Niedermayer has signed a professional contract with the Tulsa Oilers of the ECHL, an affiliate of the NHL’s Anaheim Ducks, earlier today, March 12.
During his final season of college hockey, Niedermayer played predominantly as a defenseman and scored five goals and 12 assists for 17 points across 32 games while also blocking 25 shots, recording a team-leading +16 +/- rating, and claiming a CCHA Defenseman of the Week award following BG’s series against Bemidji State in January.
Across his two seasons in Bowling Green, Niedermayer appeared in 65 games and scored seven goals and 18 assists.
In a college career that saw the Newport Beach, California native play for Arizona State before transferring to BGSU, Niedermayer appeared in 124 career games and scored 20 goals and 24 assists for 44 career collegiate points while skating as both a forward and a defenseman at different points in his career.
According to their roster on the Tulsa Oilers’ website, Niedermayer will skate as a defenseman and will don number 34 for the Oilers.
Of the six graduating players for BGSU hockey, Niedermayer is the first to sign a professional contract.
Tulsa, a member of the Mountain Division in the ECHL’s Western Conference, currently sits last in the division and conference while sitting at second to last in the league as a whole.
Niedermayer will skate in his first professional game tonight, March 12, as the Oilers take on the Utah Grizzlies at the Maverik Center in West Valley City, Utah.
