Just a few weeks into the 2025 United Soccer League (USL) League Two season, BGSU men’s soccer players are performing for their summer clubs in preparation for the 2025 season.
Many Falcons are participating in the Valley Division, as well as the Great Plains and Great Forest Divisions. Here’s the biggest news from around the league.
ANDREW SHAFFER SHINES FOR DES MOINES MENACE
Senior midfielder Andrew Shaffer has started all three matches so far for the Des Moines Menace. They are currently ranked second in the League Two Power Rankings after starting the season with two wins and one loss.
Shaffer scored his first goal for the Menace in a 5-1 win over St. Louis Ambush on May 24. So far he has logged nearly 240 minutes played and has spent most of the time playing at left-back.
TRACE TERRY DRAMATIC GAME WINNER AGAINST STEEL CITY FC
Guess what? Senior striker Trace Terry scored the winning goal in stoppage time for Toledo Villa FC’s 2-1 victory. Should you be surprised? No.
Terry started and played all 90 minutes for Toledo Villa’s season opener at Paul Hotmer Field. Junior defender Gus Peacock also made his debut for the club and played the full match in the backline.
The third and final Falcon is junior midfielder Mads Christensen, who will be representing the Villa this summer.
INSIDE THE VALLEY
On Wednesday, junior forward Bennett Painter’s Kings Hammer FC Cincinnati took on Jason Ball and the Dayton Dutch Lions at DOC Stadium in West Carrollton, Ohio.
Ball earned his second start of the season for the Dutch Lions, playing the first half. Painter earned his second straight start and played nearly the entire game for Cincinnati.
Junior midfielder Anthony Hernandez will be playing for Fort Wayne FC for the second summer in a row. Hernandez started at right-back for Fort Wayne in the club’s 2-0 win over Kings Hammer FC Columbus, playing the full 90.
Bowling Green’s Incoming freshman Namik Mehic came off the bench for Fort Wayne, coming in for Oliver Moller-Jensen in the 32-minute.
For Columbus, sophomore midfielder Ryko Bodurov got the start and the full 90. The other Falcon with the club is junior defender Saul Rios.
CLEVELAND FORCE SC
Representing the Orange and Brown for Cleveland Force are redshirt redshirt-sophomore midfielder Aiden Ptacek and incoming freshman Adin Ibrahimovic.
The two connect on a goal in the club’s 2-1 loss to Akron City FC. Ptacek slipped a ball to Ibrahimovic for his first goal of the season.
In Cleveland’s most recent match against FC Buffalo, Ibrahimovic earned his first start of the season. Ptacek so far this year has played all three games, making one start in 113 minutes.
