Former BGSU women’s soccer defender Isabelle Gilmore will be heading overseas to Iceland to begin her professional soccer career, joining Fjarðabyggð of the Besta deild kvenna, the first tier of Icelandic women’s soccer.
Gilmore’s illustrious career with the Falcons includes 5,914 minutes over 69 starts, a mark that is the 23rd most in program history. The DeWitt, Mich., native is a two-time member of the All-MAC Tournament Team for her performances in the 2022 and 2023 postseasons, and she earned a spot on the All-MAC First Team in 2023 after an outstanding junior year.
The defender played in seven postseason games that included three wins and a 2021 NCAA Tournament berth granted to the Falcons courtesy of their fourth straight MAC Championship in Gilmore’s freshman season.
Gilmore reunites with her former teammate Lexi Czerwien, who signed with Fjarðabyggð in April after a 2025 season with BGSU spent as a co-captain alongside Gilmore. The pair played in a combined 101 games over the three years they spent on the pitch simultaneously.
Fjarðabyggð currently sits 10th out of 10 Besta deild kvenna clubs in their first season back in the top tier of the Icelandic pyramid, having won the 1. deild kvenna and been promoted in 2024.
Three Falcons have now signed professional contracts in Iceland, as Gilmore joins Czerwien and former Falcon Katie Cox, who signed with UMF Sindri in April of 2024.
